Shaded Nation offer a bespoke service to fit your requirements including conceptual and engineering design, manufacture and installation.
We’re ideally placed to assist with our in-house design, structural engineering and project management team. We also produce our own steels and custom made shade sails which allows for complete quality control at every stage. The speed of our manufacture means that we can turn projects around very quickly. Did you know our shade sails are manufactured within 7 days…. ? Now that’s hard to beat!
We use only structural and architectural materials to ensure your safety and the longevity of your structure, working to British Standards in all of our processes. This makes us ideally placed to work with Architects and Specifiers.
You as the customer are centric to what we do, so it’s important we understand the objectives of your shade structure. Then we’ll need to understand the practical elements, such as geographical and topographical information, proximity to buildings and services and most importantly, the direction of the sun. Knowing this information is critical as the considerations for a safe shade structure are complex.
All of our shade structures are designed for their specific location and to British Standard and Eurocodes. This gives us the ability to ensure the design integrity and structure lifespan and you the confidence that your structure has been designed properly and is set to last.

In preparation for every shade structure installation, we work closely with our customers to fully understand the scope of the project and the key deliverables. It's important that we also take time to understand any potential risks associated with every project to ensure they are well managed. Taking this approach ensures every installation leads to a worthwhile return on investment. The clearer our customers can be about their requirements, the more realistic and achieveable the plans that can be produced.
With a combined 50 years of experience in the design and engineering of shade sail structures, our team is well equipped to handle any project. We take into account the geo-location of the proposed structure and tailor our designs to ensure that our customers receive the maximum intended benefit by looking at the time of year and time of day the structure will be in use and positioning the shade at the appropriate angles to cast shadow where it is needed.
As bespoke sail structures make up nearly 80% of our business, our in-house design and engineering team are very experienced. Our engineering team carefully review every location and are happy to advise on irregular shade geometries and support conditions where those are necessary, and will work with you to fina a safe and stylish solution that fits your needs, and budget perfectly.
In the case of our Safe Shade range of structures, which are designed to stay up all year around, the structures are designed to withstand the maximum wind loads expected in the particular geographic location. The maximum snow load requirements of each region are also taken into account in the design. We also try, where possible not to over-engineer our columns so that our structures look aesthetically pleasing whilst remaining practical and safe, rather than having the scenario of a small shade sited on very large cumbersome columns.

Your project will be managed and coordinated by a dedicated project manager who will communicate the timelines for your project. Installations typically take between 2 and 5 days to complete. The first phase comprises the installation of the columns. Our team then returns between 7 and 10 days later to install the shade sails.
"Our comprehensive guarantees offer peace of mind when it comes to the longevity of your shade structure.
In fact, very little maintenance is required for our shade structures. We recommend regular re-tensioning and checking of the stitching and stainless steel fittings and to keep your shades looking new, a yearly scrub with a mild detergent.
The tensioning is easy on our shade sails as we do not use wires as a method of fixing. Comprehensive installation and maintenance manuals are supplied with every installed product. They contain certificates for the material we use, so every product we use is traceable to source, giving you the peace of mind that you are purchasing a quality product. And, although our structures are easy to maintain, if you would prefer, we also offer a low cost shade sail structure maintenance service to take care of this for you."
